As the month of January comes to a close in Chicago and we look to the upcoming Groundhogs Day to find out whether our unseasonably warm winter will also be unseasonably short, many area cats, dogs, rabbits and other pets are spending their days waiting, homeless, in area shelters.

Slough council could write off £3m of debt

A Berkshire council could write off more than £3m in unpaid council tax and other bills under new proposals.

Slough borough councillors are considering the policy which would allow the council to stop chasing debts that it considers unrecoverable.

The money includes amounts ranging from 1p to £40,000, of housing rent, non-domestic rates and council tax.

The council said, under the plans, it would continue to pursue debts that were less than six years old.

The Economical Insurance Group has added two new members to its board of directors.
David Wilson, the past chair of the Ontario Securities Commission, and Richard Freeborough, chair of the International Order of Foresters and the board of governors of the University of Guelph, have joined The Economicals board.

MARTINSVILLE, Va. — Case goods and upholstery resource Hooker Furniture has reorganized its case goods division into teams with responsibilities for various products, the company announced Tuesday.

It also has promoted four managers with added responsibilities.

WASHINGTON, Feb. 8 (UPI) — The Washington, DC, Council has repealed the districts Internet gambling law amid concerns it had been approved without adequate public scrutiny.

The council voted 10-2 Tuesday to reverse the legislation that authorized online gambling, The Washington Post reported.

Internet gambling was added to the citys lottery contract more than three months after the council approved the contract in 2009. The Internet gaming, described as a non-traditional games option, was passed after being added to a 2010 spending bill.
